Mr. Smolens joined Oaktree in 2019 from Apollo Global Management, where he was an associate in the Hybrid Value Group (formerly the Illiquid Opportunistic Credit Group). Prior thereto, Mr. Smolens was with Citigroup as an analyst in the Financial Institutions Group. He began his career with First Reserve Corporation and received his B.A. in economics from the University of Notre Dame.
